House Church Ministry Celebrates 1 Year

This past Sunday we celebrated one year of the house church ministry. We had more than 200 people on Sunday night and a lot of them were first time visitors. We had about 40 people who came from Carbajal, the river village that our house church sends missionaries to. God has truly blessed the work and we are seeing great results. There is a lot of work yet to be done. Please pray for more leaders to open their homes for house church ministry.

Billy (the atheist I told you about last month) and his family came Saturday and Sunday night. We meet with his family on Wednesday and Friday nights. God is doing an amazing work in him and in his family.

Jackeline, Tylor, and I will be in NWA from the 22nd of July till the 11th of August. We look forward to spending time with our New Hope Family.

Teaching Billy

For several weeks Pastor Hugo and I have had the opportunity to share the Gospel with a devout atheist named Billy.  Before we met Billy, he had been suffering from illness and had been in a coma for 3 days. Through his illness Billy desired to learn more about the Bible.

Billy accepted us in his home and we began teaching him the Bible. He is excited because we have an answer for every question he has about the Bible. We teach him every Wednesday and Friday for 3 hours. His whole family, wife, son, and daughter join our study and ask questions. His 9 year old son, Simon, reads from the Psalms every time before we pray to finish the study time. His 16 year old daughter, Paloma, has invited her friends to join our study. Billy is very excited and on the verge of giving his life to Christ. When he makes the decision this guy will be used of God to do some amazing things here. Please pray for Billy and his family.

God is doing awesome, awesome stuff. I am so humbled to be a part of what God is doing and being able to see it first hand. Thanks for being a part of it. Continue to pray for us because although God is opening up doors, other challenges arise. Iquitos is as close as it has ever been for the first time to seeing a pure gospel and church, and seeing a true discipleship movement take place. Many blessings.

Growing God’s Kingdom

In March, we baptized three people in the house church and started meeting at a second house in a very bad area of Iquitos known as Tupac.  Slowly we will begin to make disciples of families there.  In April we will make two trips to the river. One to the village of Punto Alegre and the other to the village of Puerto Alegre. Please be in prayer for us as we travel and make disciples in both of these villages.

Peru mission trip dates are July 5-13. Pick up a trip packet at the information table on Sunday morning. $1,500  due by May 24 to sign up.

Discipleship in the Tamyshiacu Village

This past week we were in the Tamyshiacu Village. We had 13 Bible students from five different villages that we taught Bible stories and applications. These students will take the stories back to their villages and teach them exactly how we taught them. We hope to teach 150 stories over the next two years to this group. We believe this is the best strategy to see a discipleship movement take place among the thousands of villages in the Amazon. Out of this discipleship movement churches will be planted by the Peruvian nationals and not us.

We also had the group watch a video called EE-TAOW that was produced by New Tribes Mission with the Mouk Tribe in Papa New-Guinea.  Once they saw the video of the Mouk Tribe learning the stories and then teaching the stories themselves to other tribes the group became eager to implement this method in their villages.

We Are Spreading the Gospel in Puerto Alegre

God is blessing our work in the Amazon River area. Recently members of my team, David and Deysi, visited the river village of Puerto Alegre along the Mazan River. I’d like to share with you some comments from the villagers.

Reyna:  To learn and teach my children and that God would give us more understanding.

Doroty:  To keep going ahead and announce to others that don’t know about God.

Jhen:  It motivates me to want to learn more about God and tell others.

Antonio:  I thank God for choosing our church to teach the stories that we didn’t know.

Please pray as we continue to spread the Gospel.

We have launched our new web site! We’re excited about the resources we now have available online and we hope you will take a look around. Check it out, www.newhopeamazon.com.

Amazon Mission Update

This month we get ready to impart on a new journey with a new strategy in the city as well as on the river. We will begin evangelizing four villages along four different rivers for the next two years using the strategy of chronological Bible story telling. We will tell almost 150 Bible stories to each village and will guide them to start working among other villages. Please continue to pray for the people of Peru as we spread the Gospel. Look for our new website coming soon, www. newhopeamazon.com.
